Lhasa Middle School Library Initiative
Dear Friends and Colleagues: Today I am writing to ask for your participation in helping build the art reference section of a school Library in Lhasa. Two of my good artist friends in Lhasa run an art program at the middle school that I attended as a child. Of course, when I was enrolled there weren’t any art classes. However, just two years ago the teachers convinced the school to start a department. Amy and I were lucky enough to tour the school and talk with the teachers and principal about how we could help support this new initiative. We were told that their most immediate need is for reference materials. If you have any art books (in any language) that are sitting around collecting dust, please consider donating them to the school. Following are a few guidelines:
Art historical and contemporary art books with lots of images are welcome. As are books relating to architecture, craft and art technique.
Gently used books are fine.
Unfortunately books with politically sensitive material (IE images of HHDL or the Tibetan flag) will not make it past customs and could compromise the project.
Thank you in advance for your participation; I will keep everyone updated with the progress. Please send your email address along with your donated book. You can contribute by mailing a book to us in the US, we will pack the books and forward them all onto Lhasa. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to send us an email at: firstname.lastname@example.org 114 Partition St. Saugerties, NY 12477 This will be an on going project, however this first phase will ship out in early September 2015. Please mail books so that they arrive no later than August 28, 2015. Warm regards, Gonkar
