Saverio Lucci
Geographies of the gaze

Opus, Bangkok - Thailand

Acting & Drama Classes

Opus Italian Wine Bar and Restaurant is pleased to welcome Geographies of the Gaze, a solo show by Bangkok-based Italian artist Saverio Lucci, curated by Raffaele Quattrone. The he show presents a selection of landscapes and portraits that explore the emotional and perceptive territories created by the artist’s gaze. Lucci’s paintings transform external and internal worlds into sensitive, immersive experiences, where landscapes are mental territories and portraits evoke states of being rather than identity.

Lucci’s practice spans multiple materials and techniques, from encaustic on wood to oil on wood, canvas, and silvered surfaces, highlighting his continuous exploration of texture, light, and atmosphere. The exhibition juxtaposes intimate works with larger-scale paintings, guiding visitors through moments of quiet reflection and immersive observation.

As Lucci explains: "These works take me back to my youth, walking along the shores of the Venetian lagoon—witnessing sunrises and sunsets, enveloped in the city’s mists. I remember fields bursting with flowers, and sometimes I would imagine an Asian face emerging from the marshes and waters of the lagoon, bodies and presences submerged within nature itself." Bangkok’s vibrant and layered cityscape provides a resonant backdrop for this exhibition, amplifying the sense of suspended time and attentive presence that defines Lucci’s work. Within the intimate and convivial setting of Opus, Geographies of the Gaze invites guests to slow down, observe, and experience a delicate interplay between landscapes, faces, and perception.

“I have long admired Saverio Lucci’s artistic practice. Beyond his internationally recognized career as an interior designer, he is a remarkable artist, whether creating paintings, as in this exhibition, or designing garments and fragrances. His work consistently reveals a sensitivity and depth that transcend medium, transforming every form into an experience of emotion and perception. Geographies of the Gaze is a testament to his extraordinary ability to capture both inner and outer landscapes,” Raffaele Quattrone.

Saverio Lucci is an artist whose practice transcends traditional boundaries. While internationally recognized as an interior designer, his work extends into painting, fashion, and fragrance, always guided by the same sensitivity and attention to detail. In his paintings, Lucci explores landscapes and portraits not as representations, but as spaces of emotion and perception, where the external and internal coexist and reflect one another. His portraits do not define identity but evoke presence; his landscapes are not geographic locations but mental territories, imbued with light, atmosphere, and memory. Across mediums, Lucci’s work is characterized by a quiet intensity, a search for harmony, and a refined interplay of color, texture, and form. Whether through a canvas, a garment, or a scent, he creates experiences that invite the viewer to slow down, to inhabit the work, and to discover new dimensions of feeling. This multidisciplinary approach reveals an artist deeply attuned to both the visible world and the subtle, often hidden, emotional landscapes of human experience.
