VILLA IGIEA, A ROCCO FORTE HOTEL

16 April - 15 Juin 2026

Curated by Raffaele Quattrone

In collaboration with Athena Antichità

What remains of a sound after it has been heard? What remains of an image when we close our eyes? Reality is never univocal. It is not only what appears before us, but also what remains hidden, shaped by what our minds, emotions and experiences allow us to see.

In What We See Is Not What It Is, But What We Are, Bertozzi & Casoni challenge our perception through the extraordinary mimetic power of ceramics. Everyday objects, still lifes and familiar forms become something other: flowers evoke the passage of time, ceramic surfaces open like Fontana’s canvases, abandoned shoes carry traces of lived experience, while objects associated with luxury and identity reveal the illusion of matter. Between reality and fiction, permanence and transformation, beauty and decay, each work invites us to look beyond the visible. Exhibition handout (foyer) Exhibition handout (Green room)

Villa Igiea becomes part of this perceptual journey. Its history, architecture and identity as a place of passage and encounter create a dialogue with works that question memory, absence and transformation. What we see is never simply what is before our eyes: we see the world through what we are.
